Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that, ‘it is a proven truth that the dreadful grenade attack on Awami League rally was carried out at the patronization of BNP-Jamaat government. At that time Lutfuzzaman Babor was the State Minister of Home ministry but Khaleda Zia was in charge of the ministry. So the involvement of Khaleda Zia cannot be denied.’

On Wednesday (August 21) Prime Minister said these in a memorial meeting organized in connection with remembering the dead and wounded people in the grenade attack of August 21, 2004. The meeting was held at the Krishibid Institution auditorium of Khamarbari.

Sheikh Hasina said that, ‘the attack was done on behalf of the government of that period to annihilate Awami League and me. Next day the vans of City Corporation started cleaning up the area. Instantly I telephoned Jahangir Kabir Nanak saying that they are destroying the ‘alamats’(proof) of the case. So take measures to preserve the ‘alamats’(proof). Subsequently the leaders of Awami League rushed to the spot.’

‘To preserve the ‘alamats’ was the duty of the government but we had to preserve those because the government wanted to destroy it with the object of making the case weak. At the pressure of the public opinion a one man enquiry committee was formed with Justice Jainul Abedin but the report of that probe committee was dictated by the BNP-Jamaat government. Next an innocent man was brought to the forefront as the main conspirator of such terrible occurrence. The Joj Mia drama was staged. Next that Joj Mia was forced to make confessional statements about his involvement by carrying inhuman torture on him. But he was a simply common man how he would collect sophisticated weapon like grenade,’ she said.

Sheikh Hasina said that, ‘today it is true like day light that the dreadful grenade attack was carried out at the direct patronization of BNP- Jamaat alliance government. After filing case of the tragic and horrible incident we got a judgment. Now the death reference will go to higher court and we hope that we will get justice. But we will not get them back whom we lost in that dreadful afternoon.’

Sheikh Hasina said ‘If there is any accident or any unusual incident occurs it is the duty of the police to help the affected people. But immediate after the 21st August grenade attack the reverse incident happened. Police helped the attackers to go out safely. Even after the incident the pro-BNP doctors did not provide treatment to the injured persons at Dhaka Medical College. The pro-BNP doctors left the hospital. Next the injured party workers and leaders were arranged treatment abroad. Many are still surviving with the injury and pain received on that day.’

Awami League's joint general secretary and foreign minister said that there have been repeated attempts to kill Sheikh Hasina. Hasan Mahmud said that despite repeated attempts to kill her, she was not disoriented. She was always uncompromising for the common people of this country. Sheikh Hasina has chosen the death of Bengal. She never backed down from a fight for fear of death. Rather, she had returned to the people of Bengal with more conviction.

He said this while addressing a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of the 44th Homecoming Day of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the district Awami League office in Tejgaon on Friday (May 17) afternoon.

Referring to the Prime Minister as a role model for development around the world, he said, BNP is now disoriented after seeing these developments. And there are some renegade politicians today who talk about different things. I don't, many people say they are the roar of fox. BNP has decided not to participate in all elections as it wants to obstruct democracy. Today, they are not participating in any election, not even the chairman and members of the Union Parishad. They are expelling anyone who participates.

Commenting that Sheikh Hasina has become a world leader, the foreign minister said that she has achieved the world leadership. Wars are raging everywhere, including the Russia-Ukraine war. She has become the voice of oppressed people against him.

Hasan Mahmud commented that Sheikh Hasina has taken the responsibility of the Awami League in a difficult time, and said that she decided to become the president by taking life in her hands. Ziaur Rahman made many conspiracies that day so that she could not come. He also prevented the gathering of people to be less.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has commented that BNP will not find an escape route if it starts terror in the name of movement.

He said these things at a briefing at the Awami League president's political office in Dhanmondi on Monday (May 13) afternoon.

He also said that BNP had said on October 28 that Awami League will not get an escape route. In the end, I saw that the BNP is the one who ran away from where it ran. We have no record of escape. BNP will have to flee if they start terror in the name of movement.

Obaidul Quader said, "If they (BNP) want to move forward politically, we will also deal with it politically." If they do terror again, we will deal in the same way. I don't want to say anything about it beforehand.

Awami League Joint General Secretary Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretary BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam, SM Kamal Hossain, Afzal Hossain, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan and others were also present.
