The government is going to generate electricity from wastes very soon, said Tajul Islam, Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives.

The LGRD minister was speaking as the chief guest at a Doa mahfil on Wednesday (August 12) at Uttara Community Center in the capital to thank those concerned for the smooth completion of animal waste disposal under the Dhaka North City Corporation.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam presided over the function.

He emphasized on keeping all city corporations and small and big cities, including Dhaka and even villages, clean and tidy.

He mentioned government is going to generate electricity from wastes after collecting those and then burning in plants.

Calling on the city and rural areas not to litter with the carcasses of animals and birds, the minister said that the scattering of the carcasses of the dead animals has caused various diseases and germs on the one hand and pollutes the environment including soil, water and air pollution on the other which is detrimental to public health. For this, it is necessary to become a conscious citizen and build a clean city and country without dumping dirt in certain places.

Cleaners are also human beings; we have love, respect and responsibility towards them. They also have the right to dream of a better life and fulfill the dream. Tajul Islam said the multi-storied building is being constructed along with increasing their various facilities on the instructions of the Prime Minister. He mentioned that everyone will have the opportunity to lead a better life.

He thanked the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation for speedy removal of sacrificial animal waste during the holy Eid-ul-Azha and for arranging meals. He said it was a very good and commendable initiative. Everyone has a responsibility to keep the city clean and tidy.

The minister later served food to the cleaning staff himself and sat down with them to take food.

Senior Secretary of Local Government Division Helaluddin Ahmed was present as the special guest on the occasion.
