Anger has been expressed in the parliamentary committee meeting over the killing of Major (Retd) Sinha Rashed Khan. Besides, the members of the parliamentary committee have demanded exemplary punishment for the perpetrators. However, the army has said once the investigation and trial of Major Sinha murder is completed, it will be a milestone in Bangladesh.

The information came from a working paper raised at a meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Defense at the JS Bhavan on Wednesday (October 8). Expressing anger over the matter, former army member Colonel (Retd) Muhammad Farooq Khan MP wanted to know the steps taken by the army in this regard.

Muhammad Farooq Khan raised the issue at the meeting and said that it was very sad that a retired army officer was shot dead. He thinks the parliamentary committee should take a step. He suggested to visit the spot and requested the parliamentary committee to play a strong role. He wanted to know what steps the Bangladesh Army has taken in this regard.

Army representative Major General Mohammad Enayet Ullah who was present in the meeting said, after receiving the news of Major Sinha’s death, the Prime Minister was informed by the Bangladesh Army and she had formed a joint committee. The committee is working in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs. The activities of the joint committee are still ongoing. The latest progress may be said after the investigation is over. Once the investigation is properly completed, the culprits will be brought under appropriate punishment. The police have also demanded a fair trial for the incident. He told the committee that once the investigation and trial is completed, it will be a milestone in Bangladesh.

Committee member Motahar Hossain said that even after OC Pradeep committed so many crimes, neither the media nor anyone published it, no one dared to seek justice for fear of him. Why the intelligence agency could not give any information in this regard before? He demanded appropriate punishment for the crime of OC Pradeep and exemplary punishment of the perpetrators for the shooting death of Major (Retd) Sinha.

On July 31, at around 9:25 pm, Inspector Liakat Ali opened fire at the Shamlapur police check post in the Marine Drive area under Teknaf Police Station BA- 6931 Major (Retd) Sinha Rashed Khan was killed.

Committee President Mohammad Subid Ali Bhuiyan MP chaired the meeting, committee member Mohammad Farooq Khan MP, Elias Uddin Mollah MP, Md. Motahar Hossain MP, Md. Nasir Uddin MP, Md. Mahibbur Rahman MP and Begum Nahid Izahar Khan MP attended the meeting.

The meeting also presented a report on the steps taken by the Ministry of Defense to achieve the SDG targets in tackling the Corona situation.

The meeting was attended by senior officials including Defense Secretary, Army, Air Force and Navy, senior officials of Meteorological Department and Survey Department and concerned senior officials of JS Secretariat.
