Martyred intellectual day observed on virtual platform in Faridpur

The martyred intellectual day was observed here at Faridpur on Monday (Dec.14) with due solemnity and honor to the martyrs who were killed mercilessly and brutally on this day in 1971.

The program of the day included placing of floral wreaths and discussion meeting and also enkindle of one thousand candles to be held in the evening.

In the morning several organizations including district administration, police administration, Pourashava, Zilla parishad, Awami League & its affiliated bodies, Freedom Fighters and a number of educational institutions placed floral wreaths at the mass grave near stadium.

Later on a discussion meeting organized by local district administration in connection with martyred intellectuals of 1971 was held on virtual platform.

The discussion meeting was presided and moderated by DC Atul Sarkar. ADC(Gen) Deepak Roy at the very inception read out a write up on the significance and gravity of this great day of sorrow.

Discussants pointed out that when the occupied Pakistan Army realized that the liberation of Bangladesh was inevitable then they in collaboration with their local cohorts that included the various forces of infamous Jamat -e- Islami carried out the brutal campaign of annihilating the best sons of the soil.

Speakers said that though they killed a number of intelligentsias throughout the nine-month liberation war they led a systematic killing just two days before ahead of final victory.

They wanted that though Bangladesh will be liberated but if this intelligentsia is annihilated then it will be a country where there will be no acclaimed potential people to help build the country.

Speakers said that those who were killed on December 14 of 1971 included Dr. Alim Chowdhury, Dr. Fazle Rabbi, journalists Shahidullah Kaisar, Sirajuddin Hossain Nizamuddin Ahmed, S.A. Mannan and Selina Parveen and littérateur Professor Munir Chowdhury. Professor Santosh Chandra Bhattachya and so on.

Speakers said that the nation however came to know about the enormous loss after the surrender of Pakistani troops on Dec. 16, 1971.

DC Atul Sarkar said that this years’ martyred intellectual day different significance because we are in the birth centenary of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman whose inspiration could not deter us observing this day despite corona pandemic.

He added that  however  the evil design of the Pak army did not fulfill because we have now achieved a lot and have advanced to a position to reckon with under the dynamic leadership of the daughter of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’.

He urged upon all to resist those elements, the ghost of the defeated forces of ’71 who are now trying to make this country unstable by encouraging militancy and killing the free thinkers. 

Among others the discussion meeting was connected by Police Super Md. Alimuzzan, educationist Prof. Md. Shahjahan, Yasin College Principal Prof. Shila Rani Mondol, Rajendra College Principal Prof. Mosharraf Ali, Freedom fighter Muhsin Ali,  NGO activist Asma Aktar Mukta, Pourashava Mayor Sk. Mahatab Ali Methu,   Prof. Rezvi Zaman of Rajendra College.
