Lighting kills 9 people in two districts on Monday

Nine people were killed in lightning strikes in two districts of the country. Five people were killed in Chapainawabganj and four in Sirajganj in a lightning strike on Monday (May 24) afternoon.

The news sent by the District Correspondent of Barta24.com reported from Chapainawabganj that five people were killed in the lightning in Sadar, Gomostapur and Bholahat upazills.

The deceased were identified as Al Amin, 14, of Sabania village under Sundarpur union of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila and Rabiul Islam, 30, of Harma area of Islampur union. Besides, Kishori Khushi (12) of Hujrapur mahalla of Rahanpur municipal area of Gomstapur upazilla and Sadia (10) of Lalkopra village of Gomstapur union and Azizul Haque Faring (54), son of late Akalu Haji of Hariabari village of Jambaria union of Bholahat upazila.

Chapainawabganj Deputy Commissioner Manjurul Hafeez confirmed the matter.

From Sirajganj our Correspondent adds that four people were killed in lightning strikes in Chithulia, Dugli and Krishnapur areas of Ullapara and Shahjadpur upazillas.

The deceased have been identified as Nazmul, 15, son of Azam Bepari of Dugli village of Shahjadpur upazilla, Hashem Ali, 25, son of Azgar Ali of the same village, Shakera Khatun, 60, of Chithulia village of the same upazilla and Mohana Khatun, 17, daughter of Mosharraf Hossain of Paschim Kristpur village of Ullapara upazilla.

Shahjadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahid Mahmud Khan confirmed the matter.
