The ACC has submitted charge sheet against 6 people including former director general (DG) of the health directorate Abul Kalam Azad and chairman of the Regent Hospital Mohammad Shahed in corruption cases.
The other four accused in the charge sheet are- Aminul Hasan, former director of the health directorate, deputy director (hospital-1) Dr. Md. Yunus Ali, Assistant Director (Hospital-1) Dr. Md. Shafiur Rahman and research officer Dr. Md. Didarul Islam.
On Wednesday (September 29), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayesh saw the charge sheet, the ACC court official Md. Zulfiqar confirmed on Thursday (September 30).
The accused have been charged of converting the closed Regent Hospital into a dedicated Covid hospital without renewing the license, signing a memorandum of understanding and testing samples of 3,939 Covid patients free of cost in the lab of government institution Nipsom.
According to the statement of case, from which Tk. one crore 37 lakh 86 thousand 500 has been taken as Tk. 3500 per patient for illegal reward. Besides, Regent Hospital's Mirpur and Uttara branches have raised a monthly demand of Tk. 1.96 crore for allocating food expenses to doctors, nurses, ward boys and other officials.

The accused have been charged with embezzling a total of Tk. 3,34,6500 under Section 409/420/109 of the Penal Code and Section 5 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
