In 2021, 3,703 women and girls were tortured in different parts of the country. Of these, 1,235 women have been raped. Of them, 179 were gang-raped. Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has given this information in a press release on Monday based on the news published in 13 dailies.
According to the Central Legal Aid of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, 1,235 women were raped last year, according to newspaper reports. Of them, 179 were gang-raped. Besides, 629 girls have been raped between January and December 2021. Of these, 62 were gang-raped. Thirty-one women have been killed after being raped, including 22 girls. And seven people have committed suicide after being raped.
Besides, 155 women including 93 girls were attempted to rape. 33 women including 14 girls have been molested. 95 women including 62 girls have been sexually harassed. 22 women including 5 girls have been burnt by acid. 4 of them died. 180 women including 153 girls have been abducted.
Attempts have been made to abduct 11 women including 8 girls. 46 people including 32 girls have been harassed. Two have committed suicide due to harassment. 138 people including one girl child have been tortured due to dowry. 45 people have been killed without getting dowry. 208 people including 58 girls have been physically abused. There were 327 incidents of child marriage. Of these, 43 have been prevented.
