President Md. Abdul Hamid said, "Ensuring safe and nutritious food for all people is the pledge of all of us on National Safe Food Day to build a nation with excellence in mind and performance."
He said this in a message on the occasion of National Safe Food Day-2022 on February 2.
The President welcomed the initiative of Bangladesh Safe Food Authority to celebrate 'National Safe Food Day-2022'. He mentioned that the theme of this year's National Safe Food Day is 'Principles of Health, Safe Food and Hygiene'.
President Hamid said there is no substitute for safe and nutritious food to ensure public health. Safe and nutritious food enhances immunity; similarly, due to unsafe food, many diseases including cancer, kidney disease and disability are lodged in the body. Ensuring safe technology requires the use of safe technology and safe food ingredients in food production. Therefore, it is important to speed up public awareness activities on proper implementation of law and safe food in coordination with all concerned agencies.
He said the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority is conducting activities through coordination with all the concerned organizations by making 13 regulations related to safe food. Regular monitoring of organizations involved in food production, processing and marketing and conducting public awareness activities in this regard will play an effective role in ensuring safe food.
Abdul Hamid said ensuring nutritious and safe food for all is one of the aspects of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The government is implementing a wide range of activities to improve public health, including access to safe food, increase medical facilities, and improve health, education and sanitation. The smooth implementation of all these programs will play a positive role in achieving the desired development goals related to public health.
He wished overall success to all the programs taken on the occasion of National Safe Food Day-2022.
