National Safe Food Day observed in Faridpur

National Safe Food day, a part of the countrywide program was observed here on Wednesday (Today) in a befitting manner.

In this connection a discussion meeting was held in the morning in the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur.

DC Atul Sarker attended the meeting as the chief guest chaired by ADC (General) Deepak Kumer Roy. Faridpur Zilla Parishad Chairman Advocate Shamshul Haue, Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Siddikur Rahman and Additional Police Super Suman Ranjan Sarkar were the special guests in the discussion meeting.

At the very inception of the meeting District Safe Food officer Dipankar Dutta made a video presentation describing the pros and cons of safe food, adulteration, commitments of the government and other objectives. He also briefly described in his presentation the punishment recommended in the law for marketing and selling dirty and adulterated food.

DC Atul Sarkar in his speech said that selling adulterated food to the consumers is a social crime and the offenders should be brought under the purview of law of the land. He urged the producers and sellers to deal with unadulterated and pure food. He observed that as our per capita income has increased so our consumers are in a position to purchase safe and pure food at a higher price but in no case the traders should feed us dirty food.

DC Atul said that we need healthy people to build a healthy nation who can help achieve SDG successfully. Safe and pure food is an important prerequisite for healthy nation, DC added. He asked the traders to do business with a holistic approach as social beings. He warned them if necessary District Administration would be forced to carry out lawful measures if the unscrupulous traders perpetuate their evil activities only as profit mongers ignoring the public health.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Siddikur Rahman stressed the need for hygiene condition of the workers working in hotels and restaurants. He laid emphasis on the cleanliness of sweet-meat shops and restaurants.

The discussion meeting was addressed among others by educationist Prof. Md. Shahjahan, Professor Rezvi Zaman, Assistant Director of Consumers Rights Protection Directorate Sohail Shaikh, Khondoker Hotel & Restaurants owner Khondoker Shamshul Alam Monzu, District Fisheries Officer Manirul Islam, District Sanitary Inspector Bazlur Rashid, Ngo FDA ED Azharul Islam and others.

The meeting was attended by the food sellers, traders, elite, officials and Journalists.
