There is a need to increase public awareness on cancer prevention

Dhaka: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed said that there is need to increase public awareness on cancer prevention.

He said that in order to prevent cancer, regular exercise should be emphasized and smoking should be avoided. He also said that regular physical examination should be done to check the immunity.

According to the World Health Organization, 82 lakh people worldwide die of cancer every year. In particular, 10.5 lakh women were diagnosed with breast cancer. Second, most of the victims of this deadly disease are third world citizens including Bangladesh.

The report of the World Health Organization cites lack of awareness and education and the economic situation as the reasons for the increase in cancer and death rates in Bangladesh.

Physicians believe that regular screening can help detect cancer early and make treatment easier. The symptoms of cancer depend on where the cancer is, how big it is and how much it affects any organ or tissue nearby. If the cancer has spread, signs or symptoms may appear in different parts of the body.

They said there is a need to increase public awareness about cancer. It is important to be aware of what kind of disease it is, what causes the risk and what to do to prevent it.

Today is February 4, World Cancer Day. This day is observed every year through various programs. The day is observed under the auspices of the Union for International Cancer Control, a non-governmental organization formerly known as the International Union Against Cancer. The organization is headquartered in Geneva and has nearly 2,000 members in more than 170 countries.

The purpose of observing the day is to spread awareness about this deadly and deadly cancer and to encourage people to help the patients suffering from this disease. Cancer is a big disease that needs timely treatment. Every year a huge number of people all over the world including Bangladesh die of this deadly disease.

On the occasion of the day, the National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital, Bangladesh Cancer Foundation and various government and non-government organizations will hold various programs in different parts of the capital. Among these are processions, cancer poster and festoon exhibitions, discussion meetings, sports competitions and cultural events with the participation of cancer patients and survivors.
