The European country Greece opened the door for Bangladeshi workers. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Bangladesh and Greece on Wednesday (February 9) at the Expatriate Welfare Building in Dhaka.

The MoU was signed by Imran Ahmed, Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment on behalf of Bangladesh and Panatios Mitarachi, Minister of Migration and Asylum in Greece on behalf of Greece.

Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Ahmed Muniruch Salehin and Greece's Secretary General of Migration Policy Petroclus Georgioziadis were also. present.

According to the agreement, Greece will allow 4,000 new workers from Bangladesh to work in the country every year. They will be given a 5 year temporary work permit. Under the agreement, seasonal workers will be hired in the agricultural sector. Later, both the countries will increase the number of sectors based on demand. They will have to return to Bangladesh after 5 years.

As a result of this memorandum of understanding, employment opportunities were created in Greece for Bangladeshi workers. Besides, Bangladeshi expatriates staying in Greece will get the opportunity to work legally in phases, the ministry said.

In this regard, Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed said that as a result of this agreement, from now on Bangladeshi workers will be able to go and work in Greece safely. Once the recruitment process from Bangladesh is finalized, it will be possible to go to Greece at the expense of the full employers. In this case, the Minister warned everyone not to fall into the clutches of brokers or fraudsters.

Regarding the agreement, Greece's Minister of Migration and Asylum Panayotis Mitarachi said the agreement would be implemented soon with the approval of the Greek parliament.
