A case has been registered against eight people, including the Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) of Badda Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), for the murder of Safayet Mahbub Faraiji, a US citizen of Bangladeshi descent.

Faraji's mother Shamimun Nahar filed the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arafatul Rakib on Wednesday (February 9). After taking the statement of the plaintiff, the court directed the Police Bureau of Investigation-PBI to investigate and submit a report on March 9.

The accused in the case are AC Tayaser Jahan of Badda Zone, Sub-Inspector (SI) Mashiur of Bhatara Police Station, Sujana Tabassum Salam, ‘girlfriend’ of the victim, Aftab, Shakhawat, Aswad, homeowner Kamrul Haque and caretaker Ripon.

Plaintiff's lawyer Sarwar Hossain confirmed the matter to the media.

According to the allegations in the case, the victim Safayet Mahabub Faraiji came to Bangladesh on September 29, 2021 to celebrate his birthday. Then Safayet introduced his mother Shamimun Nahar with accused Sujana Tabassum Salam, Md. Aftab, Shakhawat and Aswad as friends. Occasionally the accused Sujana Tabassum Salam used to come to the house of the victim Safayet to visit.

Later, the plaintiff in the case Shamimun Nahar came to know that the accused had taken drugs at their house and used to tell his son Safayet to take it. After that Safayet was not allowed to meet and come home. The enraged Sujana Tabassum on November 23, 2021, Aftab, Md. Shakhawat and Aswad conspired with each other and went to the plaintiff's house where they rebuked Safayet and also beat him. The plaintiff then called 999 and informed the Rampura police. Later the police came and settled the matter. After that, the victim Safayet stopped communicating with the accused.

Victim then left home on December 25 to celebrate Christmas. At that time Sujana, Aftab, Shakhawat and Aswad were with him. Safayet Faraiji never returned home. The plaintiff went to Bhatara police station without finding any trace of Faraiji.

Plaintiff wanted to know Sujana's address from the AC Tayaser Jahan. The AC then said that he did not know the matter and address of the accused. Then on December 27, the plaintiff received a call from Bhatara police station and his son's body was recovered.
