Law Minister Anisul Haque said the Cyber Security Act "doesn't empower the police to search personal devices without a complaint".

He said this at a press conference at ICT Tower in Agargaon on Thursday (August 10).

Anisul Haque said, if someone's personal device is searched illegally, a complaint can be filed against the police. However, police can take action if someone complains.

At this time, the Law Minister also said that no one from the media will be harassed under the Cyber Security Act.

He said that the freedom of the press will be restored through the Cyber Security Act. The new law will not contain the misuses of the Digital Security Act.

Anisul Haque said that in the proposed cyber security law, the provision of fines starting from one paise to a maximum of Tk. 25 lakh has been made. That does not mean that the fine will always be Tk. 25 lakhs. The learned court will impose fines based on the nature of the offence.

He said, Cyber Security Act has made bailable in all sections. However, most of the Digital Security Act was non-bailable.

The minister said that some people are calling the Digital Security Act and Cyber Security Act old wine in a new bottle, which is not correct. As Article 29 was imprisonment for defamation, it is not now. Article 21 was jail for 10 years, now it has been reduced to 7 years, so it is not new.
