National Memorial is ready for Independence Day celebrations, security tightened

Everything is set for the homage-paying ceremony at the Savar National Memorial, where preparations for laying wreaths and hosting military parades by the three armed forces are complete.

The entire memorial square, including walkways, altars, and structures like the monument minar, is adorned with colorful decorations. Spring flowers add to the vibrant atmosphere in the gardens.

Security measures have been increased in the memorial area keeping the visit by the King of Bhutan, as well as the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh ahead.

On the 54th Independence Day, scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, the entire nation will honor its brave sons, featuring a splendid parade by the three forces. The final parade rehearsal took place on Monday.

The Public Works Department has been beautifying the monument square for over a month, focusing on cleaning and decorating various areas. Access to the National Memorial has been restricted since the beginning of the Independence month of March for maintenance.

Additionally, security has been reinforced for the arrival of the President, Prime Minister, and King of Bhutan. They will follow a specific protocol during the homage-paying ceremony, with the King of Bhutan planting a Nageshwar Chapa flower tree in the premises.

After the dignitaries pay their respects, the monument will be opened to the public.

Officials from the Public Works Department and the police department have confirmed the preparations and security arrangements for the event. The police department has implemented various levels of security measures, including intelligence surveillance, additional police deployment, and drone monitoring of the area.

Regarding the law and order situation, efforts are in place to ensure a peaceful celebration. Public buildings and roads are being illuminated, and banner decorations are being put up to welcome national leaders.

Access to the National Memorial has been restricted since March 12 to facilitate Independence Day celebrations. The memorial, inaugurated in 1972, sits on 108 acres of green land in Savar.
