Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at 32, Dhanmondi on the 54th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.

On Tuesday (March 26) at 7 am, she paid tribute by placing a wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at 32, Dhanmondi in the capital.

After offering the wreath, she stood in silence for a while paying deep respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the great architect of independent Bangladesh and the greatest Bengali of all time.

Earlier, President Md Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to the nation's best sons at Savar National Memorial at 6 am. She will pay her respects at the tomb of the Father of the Nation in Tungipara at eleven o'clock this morning.

Note that March 26 bears the saddest memory in history. It started with the killing of unarmed Bengalis on the night of 25 March 1971. This was the beginning of nine months of bloody ordeal.

Bangladesh was freed from the Pakistani occupation forces on December 16, 1971 in exchange for an ocean of blood in a bloody nine-month war of independence. An independent state was born.
