The price of MS rod is also increasing in the country's market in line with the world market. In just 15-20 days, the rod is now being sold in the retail market at Tk. 81,000 per tonne in the country. The main reasons are the high price of raw materials, supply constraints and the recent rise in fuel prices in the local market.

According to data provided by the state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), the price of rod rose by 4.12 per cent from Tk. 7,500 per tonne last Thursday. The price of 60-grade rod has risen by 7.6 per cent in the last month and by 32.27 per cent in the last one year.

According to the information given by the traders, the price of rod usually increases slightly between February and March every year. But this time it is different. Rod prices have been rising sharply for the past few months. They said that it is not surprising that the price of rod has gone up by 90-92 thousand rupees in February-March.

On Monday (November 15), it was seen that in some places of the capital, a ton of good quality rod is being sold at around Tk.81000. In the last one month, the price of good quality rod has increased by more than 8 percent. According to quality it is being sold more or less.

Abdus Salam, a rod retailer in Badda, said the price of rod has been rising for the last few days. We have to buy at a higher price now. If we get about 78-79 thousand rupees per ton. We have to sell there for 80-81 thousand rupees. We are selling in line with purchase and accessories costs.

Concerned parties are worried that the price of rod will increase further. They said that so far the price of raw material of rod, the price of ship rent and accessories have increased but the price of rod has not increased. And this time the price of fuel oil has been added to the newly increased price. Due to which the price of rod has gone up due to increase in transportation and production cost which will increase further, they said. At present, the price of scrap in the international market is 530-600  dollar per tonne, which was 300-350 dollar a year ago. The price of domestic scrap has also increased. The price of a tonne of scrap is now Tk. 54-55 thousand, which was between Tk. 30 to 32 thousand a year ago.
