US not involved in toppling Sheikh Hasina's government: Vedanta Patel
Sheikh Hasina's government has fallen in the face of the mass movement of students. US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedanta Patel commented that the United States was not involved.
A journalist asked Vedanta Patel, the deputy spokesperson for the regular press briefing of the US State Department on Monday (September 9) local time, that some Indian media claimed that the US was involved in the anti-government protests in Bangladesh. Although India has historically been a close ally of the ousted Hasina government, will this allegation have any impact on the US-India relationship?
In response Vedanta Patel said, I have not seen those reports. But I can say unequivocally that they are not true. Maybe that's why I didn't see that report.
Dr. Yunus-led Interim government has already passed a month. After the unrest on August 5 and before that, how did the United States? Planning to engage with Yunus's government, especially in organizing democratic elections? In addition, recent student protests in Bangladesh have claimed Chinese influence. How does the US assess this situation and does it think there are any strategic concerns in the region?
Vedanta Patel said, look, we are closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh. We are ready and willing to work with Dr. Yunus-led Interim government because this government is working to determine the democratic future for the people of Bangladesh. I don't want to say anything more than that.
