The government is planning to open a clinic to treat women who are reluctant to wear the hijab in public. However, women's and human rights organizations in Iran have expressed anger at the announcement of the opening of this special medical center.

The report said that according to the law, all women in Iran are obliged to wear the hijab. The government believes that those who do not wear the hijab have 'mental problems'. And the clinic is being opened to provide them with treatment.

Mehri Talebi Darestani, head of the women and family department at the Tehran headquarters of Iran's Ministry of Ethics, made the announcement. She said that 'scientific and psychological treatment for not wearing the hijab will be provided.' However, many have expressed anger at this.

Iranian human rights lawyer Hossein Raisi said that the plan is 'neither Islamic nor consistent with Iranian law.'

He added that what makes it even more frightening is that the announcement came from the Women and Family Department of the Ministry of Ethics and Morality’s Tehran headquarters. This department reports directly to the country’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

A woman, who asked not to be named, said, “This will not be a medical center. It will actually be a prison. We are struggling to meet our daily needs, and we are not getting proper electricity. But the state there is worried about a piece of cloth (hijab). If we have to start a movement, then everyone should come to the streets now. Otherwise, we will all end up in prison.”

Iran has been tightening its enforcement of the hijab law for the past few days. Those who break the law are being arrested. Many businesses are also being closed.

Meanwhile, state media reported that a female student was harassed by security guards on a university campus in Tehran for violating the hijab law. She took off her clothes to protest. She was then arrested and sent to a mental hospital. The announcement of the opening of this clinic came shortly after this incident. 

Meta violated antitrust law by giving users automatic access to classified advertising services on Facebook's Marketplace. The European Union (EU) fined Facebook's parent company Meta 79 crore 77 lakh 20 thousand euros (84 crore dollars) on Thursday.

The news agency Reuters reported that the company abused its dominant position. According to the European Commission, Meta violated antitrust law by imposing unfair commercial terms on other online classified advertising services that advertise on Meta's various platforms.

"This is illegal under EU antitrust law. Meta's behavior must stop," said Margrethe Vestager, the head of the European Union's competition department, in a statement.

"Clarifying what Meta means by 'abusive practices', the European Commission said that since Facebook Marketplace is connected to Facebook, it enjoys a significant distribution advantage. As a result, competitors cannot keep up with it.”

The Commission also said, “All users have automatic access to Facebook Marketplace. It comes to them regularly, whether they want it or not.”

In this regard, Meta said that it will appeal against the EU fine. “Facebook users decide whether to join its Marketplace or not. The reality is that people use Facebook Marketplace because they want to. They are not forced to use it.”

In addition, the European Commission has accused Meta of setting unfair conditions for those who advertise on Facebook and Instagram in the classified advertising service. Due to this condition, Meta has the advantage of exclusive use of other advertisers’ advertising data.

However, Meta claims that it does not use advertisers’ data for this purpose. And it has created a system and control process to ensure that this does not happen.

The food adviser to the interim government, Ali Imam Majumdar, said that he is also under pressure as a buyer due to the rise in commodity prices.

He made this comment in response to a question from reporters after a coordination meeting on the food situation at the Food Directorate on Thursday (November 14).

The food adviser said, as a buyer, I am also under pressure due to high inflation. I am middle-class; I buy my own food from the market. However, if the supply of new rice and vegetables increases, there will be relief in the market.

He also said, if Aman rice is harvested and winter vegetables arrive in the market well, I hope the market situation will improve.

Meanwhile, the food adviser said that there has been a bumper harvest of Aman rice this year. Aman rice will be procured from November 17. This time, 5.5 lakh metric tons of rice will be procured. Along with this, 1.5 lakh tons of rice and wheat will be imported.

Ali Imam Majumdar also said that this time Aman paddy will be purchased at a price of Tk. 33 per kg, an increase of Tk. 3 compared to last time. He said that when Aman paddy comes to the market, the price of rice will start decreasing.

He said that the government does not want to take any risk with food. Therefore, to control the country's rice market and increase its supply, the import duty on rice has already been withdrawn. This will also have an impact on the price.

Regarding the achievement of the paddy-rice target, the adviser said that this time Aman, including Feni, Cumilla and Chattogram, has been affected by the flood. Even then, maximum efforts will be made to achieve the target.

A Kolkata-bound Indian airline IndiGo flight made an emergency landing at Raipur airport in Chhattisgarh due to a bomb scare.
