President Donald Trump is withdrawing the United States from the World Health Organization for the second time.

He announced his withdrawal from the WHO on Monday night (January 20), USA Today reported.

The report said that Trump fulfilled his campaign promise to reject the global institution with an executive order on his first day in office after taking office for a second term.

Health experts are also concerned that the United States is becoming isolated in the pandemic, disease response and diplomatic relations.

Trump has previously criticized the WHO during the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, the process of withdrawing from the WHO began in 2020.

It is worth noting that the United States is historically the largest funder of the World Health Organization, based in Geneva, Switzerland. The WHO is part of the United Nations, responsible for preparing for and fighting health emergencies. The United States has strongly influenced the organization since its establishment after World War II.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's wartime cabinet has approved a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. The approval was made early Saturday, Israeli media reported. As a result, the ceasefire is expected to take effect from Sunday (January 19), as previously announced.

The US media outlet CNN reported that the first phase of the three-phase ceasefire has been set for an initial ceasefire of six weeks or 42 days. During this period, 33 Israeli hostages will be released. Among them are women, children and men over 50 years old. On the other hand, Israel will release 735 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.

Discussions on the implementation of the second phase of the agreement will begin within the 16th day of the first phase. It may include the release of all remaining Israeli prisoners, a permanent ceasefire and a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

The third phase is expected to include the return of the remaining bodies and the start of the reconstruction of Gaza. This work will be carried out under the supervision of Egypt, Qatar and the United Nations.

It is worth noting that in 2023, Israel launched a 15-month long attack on Gaza, including various regions, in response to Hamas' attacks. More than 46,000 people have been killed in these Israeli attacks. Most of them were children, the elderly and women. Millions of people have been injured. In addition, thousands of people have been displaced. They are struggling to survive in temporary shelters.

The Supreme Court of the United States has upheld the law banning the popular video sharing app TikTok. The US Supreme Court ruled on Friday (January 17).

The news was reported in local media.

US lawmakers passed a law in April last year. It required TikTok to sever ties with its Chinese parent company. Calling the matter a threat to national security, they decided to ban the app from January 19, 2025. However, if they sever ties with the parent company, they will be able to operate in the United States.

However, President-elect Donald Trump requested that the law be suspended. He argued that he should be given time to reach a "political solution" to the issue after taking office in the White House on January 20.

However, the Supreme Court did not grant Trump's request. The Supreme Court justices ruled that the law, passed by Congress last year and signed by President Joe Biden, did not violate the Constitution.

In the context of US concerns about national security, the court said that China has long been collecting data and conducting intelligence activities on US individuals. In the face of challenges from TikTok and ByteDance, a lower court ruling in December also supported the law.

Meanwhile, TikTok said that it plans to shut down the app from Sunday if the sales deadline is not extended. In this situation, the role of companies providing TikTok services, including Google and Apple, is uncertain.

It is worth noting that TikTok is one of the most popular apps in the world. These apps, created by Chinese companies, are equally popular in Western countries.

According to US media, TikTok is one of the most downloaded apps in the United States. TikTok has more than 17 crore users in the country. 

Dhaka: Former Pakistani Prime Minister and founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment. His wife Bushra Bibi has also been sentenced to 7 years in prison for the same crime.

A Pakistani court on Friday convicted former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in a corruption case and sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years and his wife to 7 years in prison, the report said.

An anti-corruption court was set up in the prison near the country's capital Islamabad where Imran Khan is being held and convicted of the Imran-Bushra couple for a welfare foundation called Al-Qadir Trust.

It is worth noting that Imran Khan has been in prison since August 2023 and has about 200 cases against him.

However, Imran Khan has said that the cases filed against him are politically motivated and a move to prevent him from returning to power.
