Highway Police is playing an effective role in ensuring road safety
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the Highway Police has been properly fulfilling the responsibility of public safety on the highway. Besides, it is playing an effective role in ensuring the protection of state assets. She said that there is a plan to increase the modern equipments, adequate vehicles and manpower in order to bring more mobility to the work of the highway police in the future.
The Prime Minister said these things in a message given on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Bangladesh Highway Police on Sunday (June 11).
Sheikh Hasina said that she is happy to know that the 18th anniversary of Bangladesh Highway Police is being celebrated. On this occasion, she congratulated all the members of the Highway Police.
Highlighting the golden history of the glorious sacrifice and heroism of the Bangladesh Police in the great War of Liberation, the Prime Minister said, responding to the call of the greatest Bengali, the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first armed resistance was formed by the fearless brave policemen on 25 March 1971 at Rajarbag police line. The Prime Minister remembered the patriotic brave policemen who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the beloved motherland with deep respect.
Sheikh Hasina said, following the footsteps of the Father of the Nation, we have taken all necessary steps for the development and modernization of the police. By taking effective measures in the areas of increasing the manpower of the force, forming new units, developing physical infrastructure, increasing modern vehicles and logistics facilities, ensuring state-of-the-art training facilities, establishing welfare trusts and banks for the overall welfare of policemen, improving housing and medical facilities, etc. All efforts are being made to make modern, up-to-date, efficient and people-friendly services.
The head of government said, in the last 14 and a half years, we have constructed 50 highway outposts under the project titled 'Construction of 50 highway outposts of the police department in different parts of Bangladesh' with the aim of modernizing the highway police and increasing modern equipments and sufficient vehicles and manpower. With the aim of round-the-clock monitoring of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, a CCTV monitoring system with state-of-the-art data center and artificial intelligence is being installed in an area of 250 km from Narayanganj signpost to Chittagong city gate under the project titled 'Highway police capacity building'. This will reduce accidents and loss of life on highways. It will play an important role in the country's export sector by increasing road safety and ensuring security in the export of foreign goods and maintaining law and order.
Besides Industrial Police, Tourist Police, River Police, Police Bureau of Investigation, Anti-Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit, several ranges, Metropolitan Unit, Cyber Police Center, Battalion, In-Service Training Center Police Station, Investigation Center, Outpost and 999 units have been formed in emergency services,she said, we have launched women, children, elderly and disabled service desks, we are delivering police services to people's doorsteps through bit policing.
The Prime Minister hoped that every member of the Highway Police will fulfill their duties with the spirit of the great liberation war and patriotism. She said, you will work tirelessly to become the 'People's Police' expected by the Father of the Nation by performing duties with honesty, devotion and humanity. Through the implementation of 'Vision 2041' with the united efforts of all, we will be able to build the golden Bangladesh of the Father of the Nation's dream, i.e. 'Smart Bangladesh', Inshallah.
