A 100 MW solar power plant is being built at Feni

Signing of contract for construction of 100 MW solar power plant at Sonagazi in Feni district has been completed. Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh Limited (EGCB) and Marubeni Corporation of Japan will build this power plant through joint investment.

The contract for the construction of the solar power plant was signed on Tuesday (October 3) at an elite hotel in the capital. The agreement was signed by Company Secretary Kazi Nazrul Islam on behalf of EGCB and Moro Shino, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Marubeni Asian Power Singapore Limited on behalf of Marubeni Corporation.

According to the sources of EGCB, a company named Feni Solar Power Company Limited will be formed as a joint venture in the beginning for the construction of 100 MW solar power plant. This project will be implemented in Chandina Union in Sonagazi Upazila of Feni District. 350 acres of land acquired by EGCB will be leased to the project company. Meanwhile, the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved the electricity tariff for this project. The project will go into commercial production in June 2026, according to the contract signing.

The senior secretary of the Power Division Md. Habibur Rahman was present at the contract signing ceremony. Besides, Energy Division Secretary Nurul Alam, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Kiminori Iwama, Chairman of Power Development Board (PDB) Mahbubur Rahman, Additional Secretary of Power Division and Chairman of EGCB SM Enamul Kabir and Managing Director of EGCB Major General Moin Uddin (retd)were also present on the occasion.

EGCB has already acquired 1000 acres of land for construction of a renewable power plant in Sonagazi upazila. A 75 MW solar power plant has already been built there with the financing of the World Bank. Under the project, 230 KV 13 km transmission line has been constructed. The center will supply power to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpanagar at Mirsrai, Chattogram in connection with Chattogram Load Dispatch Centre. The center will supply power to the national grid in November this year, EGCB said.
