The government has taken up the project to modernize Burimari Land Port under Lalmonirhat district. This initiative has been undertaken almost 35 years after its establishment. If the project is implemented, employment will be created. Sufferings of passengers and traders will be reduced. There will be a radical change in socio-economic conditions while government revenue will increase.

Sources of Burimari Land Port said that since the establishment of Burimari Land Port on 11 acres of 15 decimal lands in 1988, it has been serving passport holders passengers and import-exporters. The port has an administrative building, three digital scales, a fire hydrant system building, a workers restroom, two 400 ton capacity sheds, a 1000 ton capacity shed, two transshipment sheds and two open yards. But due to lack of space traders are not getting the desired service at times. Traders are being harassed in various ways. However, if the project is implemented, all the problems will be solved.

Sheikh Abdul Hamid Babu, president of Lalmonirhat Chamber of Commerce and Industries, said that if the project is implemented, there will be a radical change in the socio-economic conditions of the region along with massive employment generation at the local level. Government revenue will increase.

Burimari Customs Deputy Commissioner Abdul Alim said that the quality of service is lower compared to the volume of passengers with passports and import-export activities at Burimari land port.
