Benapole Cargo Vehicle Terminal inaugural in June

To increase commercial facilities, the cargo vehicle terminal on 41 acres of land at the cost of Tk 329 crore is going to be inaugurated next June. Already 80 percent of the terminal has been completed. The port authorities say that the port users will get various facilities including parking of 2000 cargo trucks at the terminal. In this, the trade between the two countries, Bangladesh and India, will be expedited as well as the revenue collection will double.

Beanpole Port Director Rezaul Kamim said that the cargo vehicle terminal construction work started in February 2022 at a cost of Tk 329 crore on 41 acres of land at Benapole port next to Petrapol port of India.

There will be parking facilities for 2000 trucks carrying Indian goods, three modern toilet complexes for truck drivers and barack building, fire service, chemical shed and other facilities are being included.

Where port authorities will monitor commercial movements. 80 percent of the terminal has already been completed. Which will be inaugurated in June this year.

Benapole Port Import, Export Association Vice President Aminul Haque said that 90 percent of the ongoing problems at the port will be solved once the service starts at the terminal. However, the leader urged the authorities to keep a close eye on the quality of work.

International Affairs Secretary of Benapole C&F Agent Association, Sultan Mahabud Bipul said that there is about 1.6 million USD trade between India and Bangladesh every year. 80 percent of which is through Benapole port. However, due to the non-development of the port infrastructure as per the demand, the normal trade was disrupted in various ways. So the demand was to modernize the port by acquiring space which is now being implemented.

A lot of ongoing problems at the port will be solved once the service starts at the terminal, he said.

Indian truck driver Ramesh Halder said, It was a big problem with truck parking. This terminal being developed by the Bangladesh government will resolve that problem.

Secretary of Benapole C&F Staff Association Sajedur Rahman said that every year, about 50 thousand crores of import and 10 thousand crores of export trade with India are done through Benapole port. The modernization of the port will boost the trade between the two countries and double the revenue generation.

Moshiur Rahman, project engineer of the port engaged in the construction of the terminal, said that the work is progressing at a fast pace. The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Bangladesh Land Port Authority are regularly monitoring to maintain the quality of work. Besides, Kolkata Embassy officials posted in Dhaka visited the terminal and expressed their satisfaction.
