Gunshot from Myanmar targeting election officials in St. Martin

In Teknaf upazila elections, after the polling at Zinjira Government Primary School polling station in St. Martin, there was a gunshot aimed at a speed boat on the way back to Teknaf from the Myanmar border.

The incident took place at the mouth of the Naf river on Wednesday (June 5) around 6 pm.

Upazila Election Officer Mehdi Hasan confirmed the truth of the incident by quoting eyewitnesses and said, 'After the elections were completed in a clean and festive atmosphere, bullets were fired from inside Myanmar on the way back to Teknaf. At that time there was a team of police in charge including Assistant Commissioner Land, presiding officer, pooling officers.

The Election Officer said, 25/30 rounds of 25/30 rounds were fired from the other side of Myanmar on the way back to Teknaf in a boat and some trawlers of the Coast Guard. However, everyone reached Teknaf safely and soundly, he said.

Noor Mohammad Shawkat, a local resident of St. Martin, said on the phone, "This afternoon, a few trawlers bound for St. Martin were also fired from across Myanmar, where several passengers were also there."

BGB and Coast Guard who are in charge of the border were not available for comment on this matter.
