Chief Adviser’s meeting with 44 NGOs on post-flood risks

Dhaka: Due to continuous heavy rains and the opening of dams, the country has been hit by the worst floods in history from upstream coming down from India. After the flood water recedes, a meeting of 44 NGOs was held with Chief Adviser Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

The meeting started at 4 pm on Saturday (August 24) at the Chief Adviser's official residence in Jamuna and ended at 5:30 pm.

The meeting discussed the outline of how all groups should work together to deal with health and food risks after the flood waters recede.

Meanwhile, the latest notification issued by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center on Saturday (August 24) said that in the last 24 hours, there has been less rain in the Indian Tripura border areas of Cumilla, Brahmanbaria and Feni districts and Tripura state. This has improved the flood situation. However, water from nine stations of six rivers in the areas is still flowing over the danger level. In five stations of the river in these areas, the water has now fallen below the danger level.

It said that in the last 24 hours, there was no significant rainfall in eastern Cumilla, Brahmanbaria and Feni districts bordering Indian Tripura and inland basins of Tripura province. The water in the upstream rivers is decreasing. As a result, the flood situation in the lower areas of Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Feni, Cumilla and Chattogram districts is improving since Friday (August 23).

Meanwhile, water is flowing over the danger level at nine stations in six rivers. They are Amarsheed (Kushiara River) 14 cm, Sheola (Kushiara) 1, Sherpur-Sylhet (Kushiara) 9, Markuli (Kushiara) 4, Moulvibazar (Manu) 91, Balla (Khwai) 44, Comilla (Gomti) 96. Apart from this, Ramgarh (Feni) and Parashuram (Muhuri) are disconnected, but water is flowing over the danger level. The water of Habiganj (Khoei), Manu Railway Bridge (Manu), Devidwar (Gomti), Narayanahat (Halda) and Panchpukuria (Halda) stations has come below the danger level.
