India hopes for cooperation in building a fence on the border: Pranay Verma
India hopes for cooperation from Bangladesh in building a fence on the border, Indian High Commissioner Pranay Kumar Verma said.
On Sunday (January 12) afternoon, he was called to Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin's office over the situation that arose on the border. Later, after discussions with the Foreign Secretary, he informed reporters about this.
Pranay Kumar said that Dhaka and Delhi will work together to curb crime on the border. India had taken the initiative to put up a barbed wire fence on the border to prevent infiltration. India hopes for cooperation from Bangladesh in building the fence.
He also said that discussions were held with the Foreign Secretary to combat smuggling and illegal infiltration.
Earlier, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said at a press conference at the Home Ministry, "To prevent any untoward incident, the matter will be informed to the Indian High Commission through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."
The Home Affairs Adviser said, "During the previous government, India got the opportunity to construct barbed wire fences in some areas of the border. India has completed the construction of barbed wire fences on 3,271 kilometers of the 4,156-kilometer border with Bangladesh. India has taken the initiative to construct barbed wire on the remaining 885 kilometers of the border."
