Sirajuddoula, 15 others to die for Nusrat murder
All the 16 charge-sheeted accused in the Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case, including principal Md Sirajuddoula, have been condemned to death.
Judge Md Mamunur Rashed of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Feni delivered the verdict in the sensational case on Thursday (Oct 24) around 11:15am.
The other accused are Nur Uddin, Shahdat Hossain Shamim, Maksud Alam, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Jobayer, Jabed Hossain, Hafez Abdul Kader, Afsar Uddin, Kamrun Nahar Moni, Umme Sultana Popy alias Tuhin alias Shampa alias Champa, Abdur Rahim Sharif, Eftekhar Uddin Rana, Imran Hossain alias Mamun, Mohammad Shamim, Ruhul Amin and Mohiuddin Shakil.
Security was beefed up in and around the court over the delivery of verdict. Members of law enforcement agencies said three-tire security has been arranged to ward off any untoward incident over the judgment.
The accused in the case were taken to the court of Md Mamunur Rashed around 10am from the central jail in Feni in a prison van.
Nusrat, a student of Soniagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, were murdered by accomplices of madrasa principal Md Sirajuddoula.
Sirajuddoula’s accomplices set her on fire on April 6 this year as she refused to withdraw a case filed against the principal for sexual harassment. She succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10.
Nusrat’s brother Mahmudul Hasan Noman on April 8 filed the case against eight people while Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on June 29 pressed charge sheet against 16. The court examined 87 witnesses on different dates from June 27 to September 30.
Judge Md Mamunur Rashed of Feni Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal on September 30 set October 24 to pronounce the verdict as both the state and defence concluded their arguments on that day.
