Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal(JSD) wanted a role of President Abdul Hamid in framing law for formation of Election Commission(EC)in accordance with the Article 118 of the constitution.

JSD president Hasanul Haque Inu said in the formation of the Election Commission we have to face an embarrassing situation after every five years. We look forward to the role of the President in finding a lasting solution to this situation. We have said that the President should direct the government to form a legal structure for the future with the formation of the Election Commission.

He was speaking to reporters waiting in front of Bangabhaban on Wednesday (December 22) after taking part in a dialogue on restructuring the Election Commission at the invitation of the President.

The JSD president said that although the power of forming EC was vested in the President alone, still the president has taken initiative to hold talks with the political parties to get their views on the formation of the new EC. The Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) applauded the President's generosity and generous initiative.

Inu said that although the constitution calls for the enactment of a specific law for the formation of election bodies, unfortunately that law has not been enacted yet. In such a scenario, our party JSD thinks that formation of a search committee is an acceptable process to find comparatively suitable skilled persons.

He said the JSD felt that it was not appropriate to propose the name of a person in the search committee. We consider it appropriate to nominate the members of the search committee from among the persons holding constitutional positions including the judges of the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, the Chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, the Auditor General and the Comptroller.

Jatiyo Sangsad(JS) has the responsibility to make the law. But the President is the guardian of the constitution. He can play a role in implementing the directives of the constitution. The government will make the law, the JS will do it. But the President can play a role in this. We have said that he should advise the government to take initiative to implement Article 118 of the Constitution.

He further said that the President has the authority to form the Election Commission. In this regard, the constitution has spoken of making laws. But so far no one was able to send in the perfect solution, which is not strange. As a result, we have to be embarrassed when it comes to the formation of the Election Commission. We have sought the President's direction to save all quarters from embarrassment.

It may be mentioned that JSD is the second party to take part in the President's dialogue to form a new EC. Earlier, on December 18, the Jatiya Party held a dialogue with the President.
