Women's football match cancelled after vandalism, BFF demands investigation
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has protested against the vandalism of the field in protest against the organization of a women's football match. The women's friendly football match was cancelled after the tin fence surrounding the Tilakpur High School ground in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat was vandalized. The friendly match between Joypurhat and Rangpur women's football teams was scheduled to be held at the Tilakpur High School ground. But the match was canceled due to protests by local Musallis.
A group of people came with a procession and vandalized the tin fence of the playground on Tuesday afternoon. And this incident spread across the country after it was broadcast live on social media Facebook. Many people protested against such an incident.
This time, BFF also formally protested the incident. In a press release, the BFF wrote, "The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) does not support the incident of vandalizing a tin fence to stop women from playing football at Tilakpur High School in Akkelpur Upazila of Joypurhat. Football is for everyone and women footballers have the full right to participate in sports. Creating obstacles in women's sports is against the development and progress of sports.
The Bangladesh Football Federation believes that everyone must cooperate to continue women's participation in the country's sports." In the statement, the BFF also demanded a proper investigation into the incident and take necessary measures, "Ensure that no obstacles are created in women's football. At the same time, we call on local social organizations and personalities to come forward to support women's sports practice, so that women and girls can freely participate in all sports, including football."
