Student Movement: Abdullah dies after three months
Dhaka: Abdullah (23), a third-year student of the Department of Political Science at Shaheed Suhrawardy College in the capital, joined the movement to overthrow the fascist Sheikh Hasina government. Abdullah, who was shot in the forehead on August 5, died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka three months and nine days later.
He died around 10 am on Thursday (November 14).
Yamin, a member of the Health Subcommittee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, confirmed the matter.
Abdullah's home is in Benapole, Jashore. He was a third-year student of the Department of Political Science at Shaheed Suhrawardy College in the capital. Abdullah was actively involved in the movement from the beginning. Abdullah was shot in front of Bangshal Police Station on August 5.
Abdullah's classmates said that he was shot in the middle of his forehead. A large hole was created at the site of the bullet wound. His brain was barely saved. Abdullah was lying on the road for about two to three hours in such a condition. He was rescued from there and taken first to Mitford and then to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. After an operation there from 3 am to 6 am, the doctors assured him of his recovery. He was released and went home two days later.
Abdullah's family members said that after going to Jashore, when the pain increased, he was brought back to Dhaka Medical College. The doctors said that he had an infection inside his head. He underwent another operation at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Seeing no improvement in his condition, he was transferred to CMH on August 22 with the help of the Bangladesh Navy.
He also said that although Abdullah's initial condition at CMH improved, he had to be put on life support a few days later. The doctors said that he had a 'blood infection' in his head due to internal bleeding. The doctors quickly advised him to get better treatment abroad. However, the low-income family could not arrange for that. Finally, he became a traveler to the country of no return.
Abdullah's father ran a shop in addition to farming. His home is in Benapole, Jashore. Apart from his parents, he has a brother and a sister. Abdullah was the youngest child in the family.
