Students announce blockade demanding University along with trial of Dun pro-VC

Students of seven colleges will observe a blockade in Dhaka city from 9 am on Monday (January 27) demanding a DU Pro-VC trial also demanding separate university.

Students of seven colleges made this announcement at a press conference at 3 am on Sunday (January 26).

Earlier, clashes and counter-chasing between students of Dhaka University and affiliated government seven colleges continued until 2:30 am. At least 20 students from both sides have been injured so far.

During this time, DU students and students of seven colleges in the New Market area took positions on the road in front of Nilkhet Book Market and pelted bricks and stones. Police fired sound grenades and tear gas to control the situation.

Meanwhile, Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, arrived at the scene of the clash while the students were in a chase and counter-chasing. He was gunned down while trying to negotiate between the two sides.

Hasnat Abdullah arrived in the Nilkhet area around 12:30 am on Sunday. When he tried to talk to the students of Dhaka College, they refused to talk to him. Then, when Hasnat tried to calm both sides, he himself was attacked by both sides.

Earlier, around 11 pm, students from seven colleges reached Mukti and Ganatantra Toran from in front of Dhaka College. At that time, students from Sir A.F. Rahman Hall took a position in front of the hall.

A chase and counter-chase began around 11:30 pm. Dhaka University students chased the students of seven colleges from the DU campus and crossed the Nilkhet area. Police fired two rounds of sound grenades to control the situation.
