The Facebook message mentioned that a delegation led by His Excellency Russian Ambassador Alexander G. Khozin paid a courtesy call on the army chief at the army headquarters. During the meeting, in addition to exchanging greetings, discussions were held on enhancing technical and military cooperation between the Bangladesh and Russian militaries.

In addition, the Bangladesh Army said that participation in the Bangladesh-Russia joint military exercise was also discussed.

Dhaka: Former Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Sitanshu Kumar (SK) Sur has been shown arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against Hallmark seven years ago on charges of money laundering.

He was produced before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court from jail on Monday (January 27). At that time, the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Sayedur Rahman of the Financial Crime Unit of the CID, applied to show him arrested as an accused in the Hallmark corruption case. In view of the application, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra approved the application to show him arrested in this case. There was no lawyer on Sur's behalf that day. After showing the arrest, the court ordered him to be sent to jail.

On January 14, an ACC team arrested the former deputy governor of the central bank from the Segunbagicha area of the capital.

The case statement states that both Tushar Ahmed and Aslam Uddin were employees of the Hallmark Group.

According to Tushar Ahmed, he used to get a maximum salary of Tk. 50,000 as GM (Commercial) of the Hallmark Group and the salary registrar's records also support this. Aslam Uddin worked at the Hallmark Group before Tushar Ahmed. According to his statement taken during the investigation, he also received a maximum monthly salary of Tk. 50,000 from the Hallmark Group for a short time after being promoted as GM in 2011. Before that, their salaries started from Tk. 10,000. During their employment at the Hallmark Group from 2010 to 2012, Dhaka Bank was operated in the joint name of Tushar Ahmed and Aslam Uddin, Dhaka Bank in the sole name of Aslam Uddin and Dhaka Bank Platinum in the sole name of Tushar Ahmed.

In this situation, the accused Tushar Ahmed, Mohammad Aslam Uddin, and Sumon Bhuiyan filed a case on December 26, 2018, under Section 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012, read with Section 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2009, for the crime of concealing the illegal source by layering and transferring the proceeds of crime of Tk. 13.5 crore through suspicious transactions. ACC Deputy Assistant Director Muhammad Joynal Abedin filed a case on December 26, 2018, under Section 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2009.

Dhaka: Out of 18,000 workers who were unable to enter Malaysia last year, 7,964 have been initially selected as eligible to enter the country.

The ministry's spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam gave this information at the weekly briefing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (January 27).

He said that on December 5 last year, the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia met with the country's Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. There, the issue of about 18,000 Bangladeshi workers who were unable to enter Malaysia by May 31, 2024, was discussed.

Later, a joint technical group was formed consisting of representatives of the country's immigration and the Bangladesh High Commission to take stranded Bangladeshis to Malaysia in phases.

After the formation of that technical group, two meetings were held on December 31 last year and January 14 this year. In the meeting, Bangladesh has verified the list of more than 17,000 workers with Malaysian stakeholders and initially informed about a list of 7,964 workers.

Incidentally, the Malaysian labor market opened in August 2022 after a long closure. As of May 31, 2024, 150,000 workers had migrated to the country through 101 recruiting agencies. However, more than 18,000 workers could not go due to ticket complications.

Dhaka: Another coordinator, Sarjis Alam, stood by Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, who was attacked by angry students while trying to stop the clash between Dhaka University and seven colleges.

Praising his fellow fighter on the road, he said, ‘It needs courage to enter the mob and stop the fight even after knowing that there are many enemies around who will kill if given the opportunity. No one else has dared to do this. Hasnat Abdullah has dared.

The convener of the anti-discrimination student movement wrote these words in a Facebook post on his verified ID on Monday (January 27) afternoon.

Sarjis Alam wrote in his Facebook post, ‘It needs courage to enter the mob and stop the fight even after knowing that there are many enemies around who will kill if given the opportunity. No one else has dared to do this. Hasnat Abdullah has dared. I'm not saying that Hasnat should be taken to task for having the courage, but at least learn to appreciate it. Maybe the result was not expected, but it could have been worse. The most important thing was that the intention was honest.'

We don’t care what a few hypocrites, opportunists, and scoundrels like you say or behave. Hasina's followers have not said or done anything less than this.'
