Dhaka: As a result, the holy month of Rajab will complete 30 days tomorrow, Friday, January 31, and the holy month of Shaban will be counted from Saturday, February 1. In view of this, the holy Shab-e-Barat will be celebrated on the night of Friday, February 14.

This decision was taken at the meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the Islamic Foundation Baitul Mukarram meeting room on Thursday (January 30) evening. It was presided over by the Adviser to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain.

The meeting reviewed the information received from all district administrations, the head office of the Islamic Foundation, divisional and district offices, Bangladesh Meteorological Department and the Space Research and Remote Sensing Institute regarding the sighting of the moon of the holy month of Shaban of 1446 Hijri, and it was found that today is 29 Rajab 1446 Hijri, 16 Magh 1431 Bangabhab, 30 January 2025 AD. The moon of the holy month of Shaban was not sighted anywhere in the sky of Bangladesh on Thursday evening. In this situation, tomorrow, 17 Magh 1431 Bangabada, 31 January 2025 AD. Friday, the holy month of Rajab will complete 30 days. The holy month of Shaban of 1446 Hijri year will begin counting from Saturday, 18 Magh 1431 Bangab, 1 February 2025 AD.

Khorshed Alam Khan, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Md. Ibrahim Bhuiyan, Chief Scientific Officer of the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization Dr. Muhammad Shahidul Islam, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Meteorological Department Md. A. Rahman Khan, Additional Director of Bangladesh Television Md. Ruhul Amin, Senior Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Md. Mizanur Rahman, Principal of Government Madrasa-e-Alia Md. Ashraful Kabir, Khatib of Lalbagh Shahi Jame Mosque Md. Neamatullah, Khatib of Chawkbazar Shahi Jame Mosque, Mufti Sheikh Naeem Rezwan and others were present.

The interim government has expressed deep concern over the recent incidents of obstructing various recreational activities for women in the country.

The government has condemned the actions of those who obstructed the conduct of two women's football matches recently.

A statement sent by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing said, "Women are citizens of Bangladesh and enjoy human and civil rights equally with men. The interim government is trying its best to ensure the full rights of Bangladeshi citizens.

If anyone is involved in any incident that violates women's rights or is involved in imposing such illegal restrictions, he or they will face appropriate action under the prevailing laws of the country."

The statement mentioned that the interim government will take strict action against any attempt to discriminate or oppress citizens of any group.

The Chief Adviser's office has already directed the Dinajpur and Joypurhat district administrations to take necessary steps to resume the suspended football matches.

The district administrators said that they had recently organized women’s football, cricket and kabaddi matches in their districts. Hundreds of people enjoyed the matches and people from all walks of life in their districts appreciated the arrangements.

The statement mentioned that in the past month, the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus had organized one of the biggest youth festivals in the country. This included various events for women players in hundreds of upazilas and district towns. Thousands of girls also participated in football, cricket and kabaddi matches in many remote rural districts.

The statement added that Professor Yunus was a lifelong advocate for women’s rights. The Grameen Bank he founded was more than 90 percent owned by women. Last week, Dr. Yunus met FIFA President Gianni Infantino and sought his help in creating infrastructure and facilities for women footballers in Bangladesh.

Dhaka: A committee led by University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor S.M.A. Faiz has proposed the name 'July 36 University' for the separate university that the government is planning to create for the seven major government colleges in the capital. This name can be accepted if students want.

On Thursday (January 30), UGC Chairman Professor S.M.A. Faiz and three members of the committee in this regard met with Education Adviser Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud. This name was proposed there.

In this regard, UGC Chairman Professor S.M.A. Faiz said that among the few names, the name 'July 36 University' has particularly attracted them. The Education Adviser has also praised this name. However, whatever the students say will be the final word.

These seven government colleges are Dhaka College, Eden Women's College, Government Shahid Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women's College, Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College. There are about two lakh students in these colleges. There are more than one thousand teachers.

In the wake of the movement of students of seven colleges, the university authorities announced on Monday that these seven colleges are being separated from Dhaka University again. The university authorities said that students will not be admitted to these colleges under Dhaka University from the 2024-25 academic year.

The government is working on a plan to make these seven big government colleges separate universities. For this, a committee is working through the UGC. The UGC has already held a series of meetings with the students of these seven colleges in this regard.

The committee also discussed possible names in a meeting with the education advisor today. In addition, discussions are underway to form an interim administration for these seven colleges.
