Government to decide how long the army will remain in the field
Colonel Intekhab Haider, Colonel Staff of the Army Head Quarter, said that how long the army will remain in the field to assist the civil administration is a matter of the government's decision because the army has been deployed by the government's decision. The government will decide how long the army will remain in the field.
He said this at a press conference on the activities of the army deployed under the In Aid to Civil Power at Dhaka Cantonment on Wednesday (November 13) morning.
In response to a question from journalists, he said that this information is not correct that the army will assist the administration for 60 days. It was said that executive powers were given for 60 days. How long it will remain is the government's decision. Because the army has been deployed by the government's decision, the government will decide how long it needs to be deployed.
'The army is very conscious about preventing human rights violations or extrajudicial killings. In this regard, our highest leadership has a specific order that we - the army - should not allow extrajudicial killings to take place under any circumstances, we will make every effort to prevent it, he said.
He also said, we are making every effort to prevent such (human rights violations). You are aware of the incidents that are happening. Apart from this, in how many situations it has been possible to prevent such things due to our activities, it may not come to the public's attention many times.
Regarding the improvement in the law and order situation, he said, we are monitoring it round the clock. We have conducted a comparative analysis of the crime information available to the police. Accordingly, after the army was deployed or after getting executive power, the number of crimes has decreased compared to before. Registration has decreased. That means the situation has not deteriorated. Many may say that we may not have improved as expected.
Intekhab expressed hope that the situation will improve in the future.
